Barcelona Provincial Council and the Barcelona City Council organise an international conference focused on the role of local governments in Peace building which will take place on 6-7 September, 2007. Itd is in charge of the technical support for the conference.
This initiative is in line with the efforts of the UCGL’s Diplomacy Committee and the Association of Netherlands Municipalities to promote the role of local governments in Peace building, as well as analysing the main initiatives and instruments of city diplomacy.
The main goal of this discussion is to contribute to the First World Congress on Cities Diplomacy, which will take place in The Hague (Netherlands) 12-13 June, 2008. This event aims at defining the concept through the analysis of both its contents and mechanisms, but also at establishing a “road map” towards the Conference that the United Nations will organise on 2010 on this topic.
